:: FINDING A PLACE TO STAY
Finding a home is not an easy task in Bologna. The fact that the city is home to a prestigious university means that thousands of students come here from throughout Italy and all over the world. They all need a place to live. This results in a shortage of available housing. Rents and property values are among the highest in Italy.

Do not give up hope, however. Housing is available, although you will need patience and resourcefulness, as well as some insider information to find it. If possible, try to avoid looking in September or October. The best time to find an apartment is from December to July.

:: WHERE TO STAY WHILE LOOKING
During your house search, you will probably need to find a place to stay while you are looking. Both of the residences listed below lay outside of the center, but easily accessed by public transportation. If you do decide to stay in a residence, make sure you ask in advance if there are any rules regarding minimum and maximum periods of stay.

Bologna also has two youth hostels, run by the same management. Although they are a somewhat lengthy bus ride from the center of the city, they are clean and  not so expensive; a viable option if you're on a tight budget.
