Bologna is just a medium-sized city, but particularly in the city center, traffic often causes various inconveniences and contributes to a troubling pollution problem.
To deal with these problems, the city government has taken a series of measures such as putting a block on all automobile traffic on Saturday afternoons and Sundays. These measures are scheduled regularly, so to avoid fines and other unpleasant snafus; you're advised to stay informed about the daily traffic situation:

Flash suggestion: if you live in the center, use a bicycle. Bikes don't pollute, and you can get anywhere on one.
